As an intern, you'll work on production systems alongside experienced engineers, contributing to software used by real customers.

Role Overview

We're looking for a motivated Backend Engineering Intern to help build scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems. You'll work across APIs, real-time services, and distributed backend applications while gaining hands-on experience with production-grade engineering practices.

Responsibilities

1. Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Node.js, Express.js, TypeScript, and FastAPI.
2. Develop real-time features using WebSockets and SSE.
3. Work with PostgreSQL and Redis to build scalable and efficient backend systems.
4. Optimize application performance, caching, and database queries.
5. Collaborate with frontend and backend engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.
6. Debug, test, and maintain production services with a focus on reliability.
7. Contribute to internal tools and backend infrastructure that support business operations.

Requirements

Required

1. Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
2. Strong understanding of Node.js, Express.js, and backend development fundamentals.
3. Familiarity with TypeScript and REST APIs.
4. Basic knowledge of Python and FastAPI.
5. Understanding of PostgreSQL, Redis, WebSockets, or similar technologies.
6. Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
7. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

1. Experience with Docker or AWS.
2. Understanding of scalable backend architecture and microservices.
3. Familiarity with authentication (JWT/OAuth) and backend security best practices.
4. Personal projects, open-source contributions, or previous internship experience.
